Fairisle Fibres: Crafting Heritage Sweaters | Knitwear
In this project, I explored the juxtaposition between the barren fair isles and the rich creativity and customs of fair-isle sweaters. I created a textured, a-symmetrical, yet monochromatic look to mirror the rugged landscape of the fair-isle islands and highlight the multifaceted nature of wool itself. I aimed to introduce colour and pattern through the scarf. The scarf is meant to showcase the building up of the Fairisle jacquard prints themselves, ultimately embodying the growth of creativity in this remote location. The scarf was knitted on a hand-operated Brother knitting machine, whilst the look was constructed through up-cycling sweaters. A sample of the technical sheets, patterns, swatches, and scarf layouts have also been included below.
